Serres prefecture is historically rich, starting in mythological times. Through a course of many centuries, that count the following periods; Ancient, Hellenistic, Romaic, Byzantine, Turkish Domination, the Revolution of 1821, Macedonian War, Balkan Wars, World War I & II, Serres constitute the heart of economic, cultural, tourist development of our country, as well as the route of Greece to the northern and eastern countries of Europe.
