Prefecture
of Serres, is the biggest in surface prefecture of Macedonia with great
fields, and constitutes an important commercial center of Greece.
The economy of the region is at a large extent linked to the agriculture and stock-raising. The agricultural products that are being produced today in the fertile field of Serres, are mainly cereals, tobacco, rice, cotton, corn, legumes, fruits, horticultural products, garden products, and small proportions of citrus fruits. Stock-raising products would be mainly the goatsheeps, ox-bief and pork, as well as cheese products. In the prefecture there is a very interesting and dynamic industry, that is mainly based on the elaboration of the agricultural products. Finally, what could considered important, is the attribution of the prefecture’s forests. These forests are offering an important wooden volume, half of which is allocated to the commerce. |
