Silversmith’s and goldsmith’s arts have continued to be made in unbroken traditions stretching from remote antiquity to the present day since the desire to gain distinction and to tone up beauty is as ancient as the mankind.

In our city the history of this art starts with the arrival of Perdikidis Bros, who taught the art of jewelry making.

Today the city of Serres is classified third in jewerly fabrication in the whole of Greece while according to its population it holds the first rank. In fact, in Serres there are more than 70 workshops fabricating mainly rings, ear-rings and crosses. Their creations are distinguished for elaborate designs inspired from the antiquity, Byzantine, post – Byzantine and Hellenistic periods.

The Hellenic silversmith’s and goldsmith’s center (ELKA) that is under the aegis of the Ministry of Development, gave the city of Serres the name of “Jewellery City”. Two signaling plates were therefor placed in the main entries to the city, namely at the junction Serres – Thessaloniki – Promachonas and the juction of Amfipolis on the NR Serres – Kavala.

The jewellery shops of Serres are considered among the most outstanding and famous in Greece while the creation of large quantities of jewels results in much more competitive prices when compared to those existing in other Greek markets. A walk in the streets of Serres will convince you!
