One of Europe's largest and most beautiful caves, whose ornaments and shapes reveal the unsurpassable creative power of nature, is situated six kilometers northeast of Alistarti and 500m from the ravine of the Angitis River. The Greek Spelaeological Society on 19.05.75 discovered it. The area it is known to cover, today, is 25000m2; the entire length of the known corridors, the main and the smaller ones is about 3 km.

The rich ornamentation of the cave consists of many stalactite and stalagmite formations of various colors, e.g. columns, walls, curtains, flames. The heccentrites are a rare kind of stalactites of various shapes, which grow in various directions (upward, downward, and sideways) while the helictites are folds or club-shaped, veil resembling and branching out formations.

The floor of the cave is almost horizontal. Its rooms, with a few exceptions, are generally big, 5-25m wide and 5-30 m high, and the dimensions of its central room are 60m x 100 x 30. The natural airing if all its rooms is excellent, the temperature is almost 28 C and the humidity 70-75%.

During the summer months it is open daily from 09:00 till 21:00, while during the winter only from 09:00 till 18:00. The visitor can go directly by car or bus to Alistrati and from there by taxi to cave. From Serres to Alistrati there are 7 itineraries a day. The village of Alistrati has a plethora of taverns and grill-houses.
